While quaint, Angel Fire (and the surrounding towns) do not disappoint when it comes to excellent dining and exciting family activities.  We have compiled several of our favorites here, and we are confident these eateries, sights and activities will be to your liking.

Restaurants in Angel Fire and Eagles Nest:

The Roasted Clove - The Roasted Clove is Angel Fire's unexpected pleasant surprise and our favorite place to dine.  Rivaling some of the states finest restaurants, chef/owner Tom Bowles' menu is unique, varied and exciting.  The intimate atmosphere is worthy of 5 Star dining, as is the hand selected wine and beer list.  Fresh seafood, Game, and USDA Prime Steaks cooked to perfection are just a few of the remarkable recommendations.  For a truly special dining experience, don't miss the Roasted Clove.  Entrées are $25-40, and reservations are strongly recommended.  Also, days and hours of operation vary seasonally, so visit their website linked above, or call 575-377-0636.  The Roasted Clove is only a 2 block walk from our condo.

The Sunset Grill - Located right next to the Chile Express Chairlift and only a 1 1/2 block walk from our condo is the Sunset Grill.   Serving quintessential American Comfort Food, it is a great place for burgers, sandwiches, and Bar-B-Que.  We especially like the Sunset Grill for lunch during the summer months as we sit outside and enjoy the perfect Angel Fire summer weather.  Don't miss the Fried Green Bean appetizer!  It is famous in the area (and tastes WAY better than it sounds).  The Sunset Grill is small, and can get busy during the winter peak season, so plan to wait if you dine there during peak season.

Yu Garden- If an inexpensive yet delicious and formidable meal in on your mind, the Yu Garden is a perfect choice.  Serving traditional Chinese cuisine, the menu is endless and it is hard to spend more than 10 bucks, even for dinner (full lunches start at $5.95)!  It is also only a 2 block walk from the Wren Condos, and the service is fast and efficient.  All of the dishes we have tried have been excellent.

Pizza Stop- No resort is complete without a pizza place and Angel Fire has a good one.  The Pizza Stop serves top notch hand rolled pies, in addition to an array of delicious Italian style sandwiches and cuisine.  Their hours and days of operation can be quirky in the summer season and they sometimes deliver and sometimes don't, so call  (575) 377-6340 ahead of dining. It is only two blocks from our condo.

Café Expresso- For gourmet coffee drinks and an outstanding quick breakfast, we recommend the Café Expresso.  It is located behind Mountain Sports, next to the Valley Market at the intersection of North Angel Fire Road and Hwy 434 (about a mile from our Condo).  All bakery items are made daily from scratch and the homemade cinnamon rolls can not be beat.  Also, try the breakfast burrito.  While inexpensive, the food is delicious.

The Lucky Shoe - The Lucky Shoe is located in Eagles Nest, about 10 miles from Angel Fire.  If you are driving into Angel Fire from Springer/Cimmarron, you drive right past it on the right.  The Lucky Shoe is a bar and grill and is one of the most popular spots in the Moreno Valley for unwinding with a few drinks and enjoying delicious traditional grill cuisine.  The Lucky Shoe is closed on Tuesdays- as we found out the hard way on our first visit!

Restaurants in Taos:

The number of world class eateries in Taos is far too large to list here, but here are a couple of don't misses!  Taos is only 20 miles from Angel Fire, and is a town of not only fine dining but rich in art and history as well.  It is well worth a day trip from Angel Fire to experience all that Taos offers.

Michael's Kitchen Bakery and Café

Michael's has been a Taos landmark for over 30 years.   Many of the same staff that helped open the Café all those years ago still work to this day.   it offers an authentic ambiance not to mention incredible food.  A trip to Taos is simply not complete without a visit to Michael's.

We particularly recommend breakfast with dozens of authentic New Mexican entrées and portions that defy you to clean your plate.  My favorite is the Poor Man's Eggs Benedict.  In addition to fantastic menu items, Michael's is full service bakery, with breads and pastries to die for.   Michaels is located just north of the Taos Plaza on the southbound side of Hwy 64.  Be prepared to wait, there is normally a line out the door, but it is well worth it!

Downtown Bistro- The Downtown Bistro is another excellent choice for dining in Taos.  The eclectic atmosphere and menu are complimented by one of the best wine lists in Taos, including their own house wine sourced from their California Vineyards.  If the Cajun Pasta with Chicken, Shrimp and Sausage is available when you visit, it is highly recommended.  Reservations are a good idea during peak seasons and hours, so call ahead to make sure they have a spot for you.  575-737-5060.  Click the link above for directions and menu items.

Activities In and Around Angel Fire:

Music From Angel Fire is New Mexico's annual celebration of music featuring world renown musicians and composers from across the globe.  Concerts and related activities begin around the middle of August each year, and run through early September.  Performances are held in Angel Fire, Taos, Red River, and other surrounding towns all within easy drives of our condo.  Click the link to find out the latest schedule of events!

The Angel Fire Balloon Festival -
Takes place in July of each year in Angel Fire.  Dozens of hot air balloons launch and sail through the Moreno Valley for a stunning  visual experience that words can not describe.  Visit the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce website for scheduled dates each year!

The Vietnam War Memorial- is a sobering and powerful testimony to the men, women, and their families lost or disabled in our nations most controversial war.  Deliberately setting aside the controversy, the memorial in Angel Fire honors these men and women and gives them the tribute they deserve.  The Memorial was funded from 1968 until 1977 almost exclusively by the parents of Sgt David Westphall killed in action during the Vietnam War.  In 1977, the Daughters of American Veterans began financial support of the memorial and helped raise over 2 million dollars to fund the construction of the Visitor Center pictured below.

On November 13, 1987, the US Congress finally gave the Memorial the national recognition it so deserved. Today, the memorial is managed by the state of New Mexico as a state historical park.  On a daily basis, the Memorial is visited by many veterans and their families. In the serenity of this place the horror of war is forgotten and the memories of those who participated, including some 58,000 Americans who died in one of the most controversial conflicts this nation has ever witnessed, can truly be honored.

Located just outside of Angel Fire, in the community of Black Lake is the Richie Slater Winery.  Making a variety of wines from almost every fruit BUT grapes, this unique winery is set in a picturesque property.  The winery is a favorite summer hang out spot where residents and visitors alike are encouraged to bring an appetizer and their thirst on Saturday nights for wine, food and music.  The family friendly affair is a casual and fun way to spend an evening in the Moreno Valley.

Whether you spend a few days, or a few weeks in the beautiful Moreno Valley, there are plenty of activities to ensure your stay will be a pleasurable one.  And, if budget is a concern, you will be pleased to know that you won't find exorbitant "resort" prices for the activities and dining in and around Angel Fire.  It simply offers one of the best vacation values in the country.

Transportaion in Angel Fire couldn't be easier.  If you have a vehicle, it is easy to learn your way around in a few minutes.  But, if you don't have vehicle, or driving in the snow makes you uncomfortable, The Magic Bus can take you anywhere in Angel Fire for just a few bucks.  Click Here or  the map below to see the routes!  There is a sheltered bus stop right outside our condo (see the green star next to CONDO on the Bus Route Map below.  This also shows just how close our condo is to the Chile Express Lift!
